Dave’s Monday Blast – September 29, 2025

Like literally millions around the world, we watched the Charlie Kirk Memorial on the 21st and were greatly encouraged in so many ways. I admit to shedding some tears, some out of sadness, but most out of joy knowing that our God is up to something”! A God thing is always a good thing!

The early Christian writer, Tertullian, is credited with this remarkable saying: “The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church.” This expression simply meant that the martyrdom of Christians often leads to the growth and strengthening of the Christian faith. While historically true, we know that for it to be true, it must be one of those “God things”.

Charlie Kirk’s faith seemed so very simple; it was organic, natural, and on display day in and day out. Sometimes we make faith more complicated than it needs to be, even when out of a well-intentioned desire to remain faithful as children of the Most High God.

In our daily pursuit of God, we desire to honestly say as the prophet did in Isaiah 6:8, “Here I am Lord! Send me!” It is all too easy to find ourselves counting the minutes of prayer time, reliving the goodness of our deeds, or measuring the Bible knowledge we’ve acquired over the years. But, INTENTIONAL men of God know that God is not keeping notes on all of these practices, or the lack thereof.

InTouch Ministries comments: “We often end up focusing on the details of practicing faith instead of on Jesus Himself. Adding layers of complexity. More rules, more rituals, more self-imposed burdens do not necessarily lead to greater devotion or a stronger faith. However, when we find ourselves doing those very things, it’s a good idea to pause and ask, “Am I afraid that Jesus’ unburdened path is not truly enough?”

Our Lord reminds us in Matthew 11:28 – 30 that as we take up His yoke, the burden is intended to be light; indeed, He is in the traces with us doing all of the heavy pulling. I believe that is exactly how Charlie Kirk lived out his faith with such conviction, courage, and joy.

The Lord made it clear that following Him isn’t about getting every detail perfectly right or going above and beyond the typical for Him. It’s about our willingness to turn toward Him again and again as He is our forever our “true north.” Frequent course correction is simply part of our journey with Him. And He is always ready to yoke up with us and get us back on the correct course.

If what happened to Charlie has caused you to feel lost, weighed down, distracted, confused, exhausted, angry, or longing for a path forward, the solution is as clear and true as it was more than 2,000 years ago; Jesus is the way. Keep turning toward Him and He’ll be there to journey with you.
