Dave’s Monday Blast – November 10, 2025

Last week we began to unpack the Scripture account of Jonah and his resistance to the will of God. It is important to note that Jonah was a prophet of the Lord; the Old Testament version of a New Testament Ambassador for Christ. His job was to speak the Word of the Lord to the audience that God directed; our mandate is the same. As you recall, Jonah thought that the Lord’s message of repentance to the inhabitants of Nineveh was a message he could not and would not deliver. Why?

Jonah despised the Ninevites because they were a blasphemous, despicable, God hating people, and in his view they deserved to be punished by God, not forgiven. Jonah Chapter 1 finds him resisting God’s instructions and running as far away from His will as possible. Chapter 2 finds him seeking forgiveness and being restored back into a relationship with God. Before you read on with the devotional please read Jonah Chapter 2 and then reference your reading with the following principles of repentance leading to deliverance.

1. Disobedience Can Lead to Desolation. (Jonah 2:2 – 5)  Our God uses any and all means to get our attention…to get our focus back upon Him!

2. Desolation Can Lead to Repentance. Chapter 2 is simply Jonah’s prayer as he begins to turn his attention back to God. The following 3 steps are the process God says we need to follow to begin our journey back to Him:

a. We cry out to God. (Jonah 2:1 & 2; Hebrews 4:16 – Faith in Action)
b.  We reflect on our choices that separated us from Him (Jonah 2:4, 6 & 8) God is always on His throne and ready to receive us into His very presence. A very good thing that must become the main thing!
c. We surrender to God’s will. (Jonah 2:9) Our other idols must pass away.

3. Repentance Leads to Rebirth. (Jonah 2:10) Sin is like food poisoning…it must be expelled. We are renewed by the process of repentance and forgiveness. Two principles to embrace:

a. God gives second chances. (Jonah 3:1) 70 x 70
b. God has greater plans. (Matthew 12:40 – 41). God plays the long game; the bigger narrative.
