Dave’s Monday Blast – February 12, 2018
Over the last few weeks we have been unpacking the powerful truths found in Psalm 103 where we learn of God’s promises to us. We consider these to be “benefits” from God for His children. We have discovered that He forgives us, heals us, redeems us and loves us. But David offers us one more promise/benefit:
5. Our Father “satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (v. 5). Jim Denison comments, “When you are tired and struggling, remember God’s promise. He “satisfies you”. The word means to give you all you need and more. He satisfies you with “good” and all that is beautiful and pleasant. As a result, your strength is renewed like the eagle’s, no matter how difficult your days have been.”
Later in the psalm, David amplifies this promise: “As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children’s children, to those who keep His covenant and remember to do His commandments” (vv. 15 – 18).
As you will face tiring and taxing days remember to keep God’s covenant and to do His commandments; in doing so you position yourself to experience the renewing strength and love of your Lord. The prophet restated this promise: “They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
You have chosen to serve a God who renews you; why is this promise relevant to you today?
Jim Denison concludes with this thought, “There is room for only one ruler on the throne of your heart. Every day you must decide who will sit on that throne. If you do not consciously and INTENTIONALLY make God your King, you will serve in His place. As a fallen sinner, your default position is to rule your own life and usurp God’s rightful place as your Lord. (Seems a recipe for disaster 😁)
But if you deliberately dethrone yourself and enthrone Him, you will position yourself as a creature before your Creator. You will kneel before Him and bless Him for ‘all His benefits’ (v.2). And you will receive all that His grace intends to give.”
