Dave’s Monday Blast – December 22, 2025

Merry Christmas week my good friends! Americans are slated to spend approximately 900 billion in gifts this season; that number equates to 20% of all retail sales. Most of those $’s are spent on children (our Christmas Tree gift pile affirms this truth). The least represented directed gifts are to Fathers (our Christmas Tree also affirms this truth).

The first gift mentioned in the Biblical account given to young Jesus was Gold! Seemingly an odd gift to give to a child, but not so much as one considers that He was King of the World. Three hundred and eighty five times gold is mentioned in Scripture and it is often associated with kingly wealth. Their gift was certainly appropriate and as you study the three gifts given we understand their significance to the birth, death/burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ…Emmanuel! (Matthew 2:10 – 11). These Wise Men were descendents of the Prophet Daniel (Daniel 2:48) and for hundreds of years were searching for the long awaited King of the World and Savior of all humankind.

The responses to the news that came with these travelers and their specific gifts can be observed in this account and I encourage you to read it now providing context: Matthew 2.

Three Responses to this Good News recorded in this account (Note the response today is unfortunately the same):

1. Herod: Opposition to King Jesus (Matthew 2:1 – 3) Remember that Herod did not intend to share his authority with anyone. History records that he had his wife and all three of his sons murdered … so the murder of all Jewish male children ages 0-2 was not surprising. (Matthew 2:16)

2. The Priests: Dismiss/Ignore King Jesus (Matthew 2:4 – 5) Jesus did not fit their conception of a King. This news (even though they clearly understood the prophecies) disrupted the status quo.

3. The Wise Men: Worship Jesus (Matthew 2:10 – 11) More than simply acknowledging His Kingship with their gifts they chose to worship Him by bowing down. Remember that the application of knowledge is the very definition of wisdom – hence they were truly wise men.

INTENTIONAL men of God have the wisdom to recognize that the “presentation” of the Savior of the World in that humble stable, and upon that donkey thirty three years later was fulfilled by prophecy found in Zechariah 9:9. Humankind’s response to Him today looks the same as it did then, but the wise response must be the same as those descendants of Daniel two thousand years ago. The Apostle Paul teaches that eventually EVERYONE will bow their knee and confess with their mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:9 – 11).

Sharing this story with someone within your sphere of influence this season is the wise thing to do. We must be asking this question of those we encounter: What is your response to King Jesus?
