Dave’s Monday Blast – November 17, 2025
The first chapter of Jonah taught us that resisting God is ultimately not possible, and the choice to do so leads to desolation and isolation. The second chapter showed us that desperation can lead to deliverance if it includes true repentance and surrender. In chapter three (today) we are reminded that our God is a God of second chances. In Christ, our failures are events that do not need to become our identity. Please take a few moments and read Jonah chapter 3.
Here is what we can gleen from this passage:
1. God’s Great Grace: (Jonah 3:1 & 2) “A second time…” Only Christianity provides true Grace = Unmerited Favor! Isn’t wonderful that God provides us with opportunities to partner with Him in His eternal plans; this is what we were created for.
2. God’s Great Mission: (Jonah 3:2 & 3) “Get up and go immediately…! God wants us to join Him in a great mission. No mission is greater than the God who calls us. Some fun facts about the “Great city of Nineveh” nineteen miles of walls were needed to surround the city. The walls were 100 feet tall and boasted 15 gates and 15 towers that were 200 feet tall. It was the capital city of the Assyrian empire which at this time was THE most powerful empire on the planet. But their greatness could not save them from destruction.
3. God’s Great Message: (Jonah 3:4) The simplicity and power of the message he was relaying from the Lord was Short – Direct – Offensive; “Repent or Perish!” Jesus gave us the same message to share: “The Kingdom of God is at hand so repent and be saved!”
4. The Great Response: (Jonah 3:5 – 10) Scripture informs us that the entire city believed the message delivered by the reluctant prophet and then repented of their wickedness. God, in His mercy, spared them from certain destruction.
Next week we will examine the curious response of Jonah to this “good news”.
Remember brothers:
a. His grace is available to you this day.
b. The mission He has placed you upon is always before you.
c. The message has not changed.
d. The response of those who hear the message is His business not ours.
