Dave’s Monday Blast – November 3, 2025

Resisting God.  Humankind has been “hell bent” on resisting our Creator since  the Garden of Eden. I do not believe the desire to resist Him is any greater today than the myriad of accounts throughout Scripture, but the battle is certainly raging in our days.

“When we resist God, we don’t just run from His will, we run into storms, we run into pain, and we miss out on His purpose. But when we surrender, His mercy meets us in our failure and sets us back on course.” (Author unknown).  Jonah is a great example of these truths.  I want to spend a couple of weeks unpacking the account of Jonah. Before you jump into the following, read Jonah 1.

1. Divine direction meets human hesitationSeemingly, resisting is easier than obeying, however; you can not escape from God (Jonah 1:1 – 3).

2. Divine mercy pursues human rebellion.  The storms we face in life aren’t designed to “pay you back” for your rebellion but to bring you back to Him (Jonah 1:4).

3. Defiant hearts create collateral damage…ALWAYS! Obedience always benefits others, but disobedience causes widespread and incalculable chaos (Jonah 1:5 & 8 & 14).

4. Desperate surrender creates a place for peace. You will never know God is all you need until He is all you’ve got. (Jonah 1:12 & 15).  Surrender is the key that unlocks the door to peace!

For next week: Read Chapter 2: Desperation can lead to deliverance!
