Dave’s Monday Blast – July 7, 2025

Happy Post 4th of July! I remember as a kid this profound sense of disappointment or even childish depression at the dawn of July 5. Those days leading up to, and then of course the 4th itself, was a magical time of warm summer nights, fireworks, hot dogs, fireworks, home-made ice cream and did I mention fireworks!? We did shoot off more than our fairshare “at the lake” last week. Folks set up fireworks stands seemingly on every corner (next to a Baptist Church – because they are on every corner) and sell the “good stuff” for weeks in advance. But alas…it is over again, and I feel that familiar sense of disappointment, or even childish depression over its passing. I wonder sometimes how many more I will have left! But until then…I saved a bunch to ease my depression throughout the summer.

The fireflies, fireworks and clear star filled skies last Friday reminded me of Psalm 19: “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, And night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words where their voice is not heard…”

As the Word of God is revealed in every way imaginable the majesty of our Creator becomes increasingly obvious. (Verses 7 – 9 of Psalm 19) reveal six things that the Word does:

1. (Verse 7) The law of the Lord is perfect, restores (transforms) the soul.
2. (Verse 7) The testimony of the Lord is sure (certain), making wise the simple.
3. (Verse 8) The precepts of the Lord are right (truth), rejoicing the heart.
4. (Verse 8) The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
5. (Verse 9) The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever.
6. (Verse 9) The judgements of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.

Verses 10 & 11  go on to say that the Word is more “…desirable than gold, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honey-comb. Moreover, by them the servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward.” So as much as I desire to see the 4th of July roll around and enjoy all that it has to offer, it is temporary and that sense of disappointment is left in it’s wake, but the Word of God never leaves and never disappoints.
