Dave’s Monday Blast – March 3, 2024
IF we focus on the news today, it can be EXTREMELY discouraging as almost every report is awful; the world is consumed with anger, anxiety, darkness, despair, fear and hopelessness. Is there any hope for this broken world? The Bible is clear on this subject. There is a definitive pathway to true hope. The book of Deuteronomy 6:7 instructs us well as to the process of discovering all that we need to be hopeful: “You shall teach (this is referring by context to the precepts of the Word) them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.” The point is, we must focus on one thing: GOD! CHOOSE to turn your attention to God’s Word for truth, hope, and encouragement. Take time to balance the news of today with the Word of God. In fact, make certain that the scales are heavily balanced in favor of the Word. Dramatically limit your exposure from all sources of media.
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation (this is a very strong word). But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14 – 16)
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” (Romans 15:13)
Many of you are aware of The Navigators. They have provided tools and training to help people of all ages to grow in their faith and their ability to share that faith with ours. Since 1933 they have driven this mission: “To know Christ, make Him known, and help others do the same.” The Navigators is focused on developing disciples person-by-person, and encouraging spiritual growth across life stages. Through Life-to-Life relationships, the message of 2 Timothy 2:2 is passed forward: “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”
Here are a few ideas from this remarkable organization on how to be a light within your sphere of influence: As INTENTIONAL Men of God, I know many of you practice these Spiritual Disciplines every day. (A reminder never hurts!)
1. Start and end your day reading the Word of God (Romans 12:1 & 2).
2. Memorize God’s promises (this is not just an exercise for the young) (Psalm 119:11 – 16).
3. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you (James 4:8).
4. Love your neighbor (Mark 2:30 & 31).
5. Pray for people within your sphere of influence (James 5:15 – 17).
6. Pray for those in authority over you (1 Timothy 2:1 & 2).
7. Pray for the vulnerable and those in need (James 1:27).
8. Share God’s love with others (1 Corinthians 9:19 – 23).
9. Show acts of kindness (Micah 6:6 – 8).
10. Encourage those who are discouraged (Ephesians 4:29).
11. Give the gift of love, peace, gentleness, patience, grace, kindness (Galatians 5:22 & 23).
That’s good isn’t it!
