Dave’s Monday Blast – November 15, 2021

There are so many voices in our world. News media, social media, family, friends, neighbors, teachers, employers; not to mention the voices you have in your head and heart from your past. Do you still hear the encouraging voice of your mom or dad, a teacher or coach, a pastor or youth leader, maybe someone who discipled you as a young Christian? Many of you still hear the voices of discouragement from these same sources. We all hear voices…a lot of them.

One of the most difficult things for the Christian to learn is to discern the Spirit’s voice from all the others. Jesus said, “My sheep know my voice and they follow me” (John 10:26 – 28). It begs the question my friends, do you easily recognize His voice? Can you easily distinguish between His voice and all the others?

(Psalm 29) is about voices and God’s voice in particular. In an article from the Daily Voice (a pastoral blog), a contributing author comments: “It begins with a call for us to use our voices to do what all creation does, to worship God because He is worthy. God is holy, special and distinct from everyone and everything. He alone is worthy of our praise and allegiance. We need to stop often, personally, daily, and at least weekly with God’s people to celebrate His majestic uniqueness.”

The psalmist goes on to declare and describe the glory of God’s voice. From before creation God’s voice rose above the waters. His voice is like thunder. His voice was also described this way when Jesus was baptized and at other times in Jesus’ ministry. God’s voice has power and splendor. It is awesome in its capacity and beauty. It is by His voice that He created all things. With His voice He can shatter a great cedar or cause a land or nation to rise and fall. His voice has the heat and light of fire. His voice shakes the earth and brings forth life and healing.

Things happen when God speaks as He sits enthroned above all. His voice and the message it proclaims is unchanging. His voice brings strength and assurance. His voice is the voice of peace. You and I need more of His voice! INTENTIONAL men of God know where to turn to hear His voice!
