Dave’s Monday Blast – December 21, 2020
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Pastor Jim Denison of the Denison Forum recently wrote about the need for believers to use this Christmas season to Redeem the Tipping Point within our culture. He comments: “As with every other season of this year, the many tragedies and challenges of 2020 are affecting Christians. But there is an opportunity in the crisis of these days.”
Author Peter Burke discusses the term “crisis” within its context of ancient Greek medicine, when a crisis was the moment when a patient hovered between recovery and death. He suggests: “Let us think of a crisis as a moment of turbulence leading to a change of structure. In other words, it is a ‘tipping point’ or ‘critical threshold,’ often reached after a long period of gradual change.”
I would suggest that Christ-followers should be known for their compassion for those hovering “between recovery and death,” whatever their crisis may be. We must submit daily to the power of God’s Spirit (Ephesians 518) and then offer God’s gift of light, life and love wherever and however we can. Denison comments: “We would be known by what we are for, not just for what we’re against. We would be seen as the solution rather than the problem. We would redeem the tipping point of these days for God’s glory and the good of the world.
Billions of people around this world are hopeless and hurting. The ONLY solution to their plight is found in the Christ of Christmas. As His ambassadors, let us be INTENTIONAL about sharing the Good News that “Unto us a child is born…” (Isaiah 9:6 – 7).
