Dave’s Monday Blast – September 4, 2023
I grew up in rural Minnesota. I have vivid memories of tornado seasons. One strong memory I have is watching the sky, ominously black, the air thick and still, natural sounds diminished or gone as if all of creation was anticipating what was to come. All day long, the radio would broadcast urgent instructions on how to protect yourself and guard against the destructive forces of wind that were a part of this impending storm.
As I observed the furious activity of people in our neighborhood in anticipation of a “touch down”, I wondered why some of our neighbors took the weather bureau warnings so seriously, while others did not? It reminds me of the heart of humanity who see the warning signs of a culture in complete chaos, yet stubbornly refuse to hear God’s warning about a much greater disaster that is coming upon the entire world. The Bible tells us, “The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up” (2 Peter 3:10).
Yes, there’s a dreadful disaster ahead. But there is a sure way of escaping its ravages. INTENTIONAL men of God know it’s only found in Christ. The Word of God is our Weather Channel (but 100% accurate). Those who have placed their faith in Him enjoy His Peace here on earth and are assured of spending eternity with Him in heaven. Like the old song we loved to sing years ago: “Safe and Secure from all Alarm” in the greatest storm shelter ever!
Are you prepared? If not, accept the Lord Jesus as your Savior today (Roman 10:9 – 13). Unlike the tornado warnings of my youth, which often, and gratefully failed to materialize, the return of Christ is sure and the judgement of God will follow.
