Dave’s Monday Blast – September 25, 2023
At His ascension from the Mount of Olives, Jesus commanded His disciples to go into all the world and make disciples. In Matthew 28:19 & 20 we learn about this mandate and understand it to be more than a simple admonishment to share the Good News of His Resurrection. As His disciples, we are to be about the work of building more faithful disciples.
A Faithful Disciple is one who Lives with Jesus, Learns from Jesus, Looks like Jesus, and Loves like Jesus. “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19)
A Faithful Disciple is committed to knowing and being guided by God’s Truth; one who continues to take steps of faith, one who is daily surrendering their heart and character to Him.
Tabitha (also known as Dorcus) is called A Faithful Disciple in (Acts 9:36 – 42). This passage declares that she was “devoted to good works and charity.”
I was paging through a random book the other day and ran across a bookmark that defined a faithful disciple in this manner:
Pursues Wisdom
Feasts on the Word
Prays without ceasing
Answers the call
Generously gives
Follows the Spirit
Embraces repentance
Embodies patience
Trusts and obeys
Takes up the cross daily
Forgives everything
Loves abundantly
Boasts only in Christ
How are you measuring up brothers? If the Lord took you home this very day would He declare “well done good and faithful disciple.” (Matthew 25:23)
