Dave’s Monday Blast – November 18, 2024

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I pause to ponder the ramifications of this uniquely American celebration. As I mentioned last week, the official commencement of Thanksgiving was a Presidential Proclamation by Theodore Roosevelt in 1903. “In no other time has the experiment of government, of the people, by the people, and for the people, been tried on so vast a scale as here in our own country.” Having just experienced the election of a new President for the sixtieth time since our founding, we once again pray for a smooth transition of leadership and anticipate a positive change in the direction of our country. We are indeed thankful to Almighty God for the privilege of living in this country, at this time in history, and to be able to experience the moving of His mighty hand. His grace, love and mercy are on clear display.

It reminds me though of the task that is still before us as Men of God. The prophet Micah sought to understand what he must do to be able to enter into the presence of God. He wanted to know what God requires or expects of His sons and daughters. I encourage you to take a few moments to meditate upon Micah 6:6 – 8. It is amazing to consider that you can be that “fly on the wall” listening to God clearly answer the question of His child. (V.8) “Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God”.

Let’s unpack it this way:

1. Always be aware of God’s presence. This SHOULD affect your decision making processes. You will choose to “act justly!”
2. Always obey His Word. This will keep you in His will and you will find yourself organically loving kindly.
3. Wherever you find yourself, do not easily leave. God has been INTENTIONAL about placing you where you are. Running away or leaving will often look more attractive in the short run. But over the long haul, leaving easily has a tendency to produce a pattern of walking away, and this is prideful. So walk humbly WITH your God.

How do we do these things consistently? Two commands from the Lord!

1. (Hebrews 10:24 – 25) “And let us consider how to stir one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” I would suggest that “The Day indeed draws nigh”!
2. (1 Corinthians 15:58) “Therefore, beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”

Q. What is our labor?
A. Do Justice, Love Kindness, and Walk Humbly with your God!
