Dave’s Monday Blast – May 4, 2015
Last week we considered the Leadership Legacy of Joshua as taught by our Men’s Retreat speaker, Captain Tom Joyce. This week and next we will consider the Leadership Legacy of the Apostle Paul. As Paul pens his Second Epistle to Timothy he is likely months away from death. Destined to be beheaded by Rome, he shares with his successor the key to effective Christian leadership. The admonition is found in 2 Timothy 3:16-17. This familiar passage equips us for leadership.
The Scriptures are “God Breathed”. They represent the literal breath of God. He is Scripture. All of it is profitable for :
1. Teaching – The things of God. Truth and Doctrine. Compare – 1 John 3:4 &
Deuteronomy 6:6-9
2. Reproof – The rebuking of sin. Compare – Matthew 18 and Proverbs 23
3. Correction – The restoration or improvement of character. Compare Proverbs 22:1
4. Instruction in Righteousness – The encouragement of others. Compare Psalm 139
These are the reasons we have the Word. It makes us adequate to accomplish what God places before us.
We again ask the question…”What will we do with the rest of our lives?” According to Joshua and Paul the answer is INTENTIONAL discipleship! It begins and ends with 2 Timothy 3:16 & 17. We are to be disciples and we are to make disciples. Disciples are taught to be completely refinished unto every good work. Equip every man for disciple making. See 2 Timothy 4:6-8. Lives that demonstrate our love for God is the essence of discipleship.
