Dave’s Monday Blast – May 25, 2025

Wow…the last week of May is here. Summer is almost upon us. I don’t necessarily have a favorite season…I just love the subtle changes that accompany each one. It is a constant reminder to me that His mercies and blessings are as dependable as the seasons. However, I do find myself curious, and enjoying the seasonal transitions living on the other side of the country.

Last week we began unpacking the fourth chapter of Proverbs. King Solomon implores us in powerful language to be attentive to the Instruction of the Father! Through it we gain understanding and discover how to acquire the wisdom needed to walk through life unimpeded.  Remember, wisdom is the proper application of knowledge.

I encouraged you to read through verses 10 – 27 as the author implores us to diligently guard 5 entry points into our lives. Each area we are to guard begins with heeding His instruction. We shared the following last week emphasizing that the success of this process really boils down to choices; moment by moment – day by day – season to season choices.

1. Guard your companions (vs. 13 – 19) (Accountability)
2. Guard your bodies (vs. 20 – 22) (Purity)

For this week:

3. Guard your minds (vs. 20 – 23) Paying attention to the instruction of the Lord is the only way to guard our minds from Satanic attack. Take some time right now and meditate upon the following Scriptures: Mark 7:21 – 23; Psalm 119:9 – 11; Romans 12:2; Philippians 4:7 & 8; Proverbs 14:12. The Romans passage is a simple reminder that the mind must be renewed with the Word of God every day!

4. Guard your integrity (v. 24) The reference to integrity in context is simply saying that nothing should come forth from our mouths that is not true. There are over 100 passages in the Word that speak of the mouth/tongue and its importance to our character and witness. Please take a few moments to meditate upon Proverbs 18:21 and James 3.

5. Guard your focus (vs. 25 – 27) We must keep our eyes on the righteous path less we stumble or lose our way. The Apostle Paul referred to the Christian life as a race with a heavenly prize to win in Philippians 3:14. The account in the Gospels of Jesus encouraging Peter to get out of the boat in the midst of the storm (Matthew 14:29 – 31) clearly teaches that success obedience to His instruction.

“Hear, O sons, the instruction of the Lord, and give attention that you may gain understanding and acquire wisdom!”
