Dave’s Monday Blast – May 25, 2015
Over the last four weeks I have been reviewing the teaching from our April Men’s Retreat at Woodleaf Conference Center. Our speaker for the weekend was retired Naval Captain Tom Joyce, Top Gun Fighter Pilot. He ended his time with us discussing the idea of “Training to Finish Well”. He laid out for us this practical advice:
- Maintain a LIFELONG SPIRITUAL fitness program. Prayer and the Word.
- Find your “best event”, i.e., how God has BENT or shaped you for His service. Proverbs 22:6; 1 Corinthians 12
- Run with a PARTNER. Accountability is profitable.
- Don’t lose sight of the GOAL. To bear His image well/This brings Him glory.
- Take no SHORT CUTS, i.e. stay the course. Jeremiah 29:11
- You need to BREAK THE TAPE, i.e. don’t stop before you finish. He told the story of John Stephen Akhwari the Olympic runner from Tanzania (Google that).
He finished with this question: What do you hope will be said about you at your memorial? I hope the answer is that others are following hard after Christ because of your influence.
