Dave’s Monday Blast – May 23, 2022
Last week we began a discussion concerning the “problem of disagreeable outcomes to our prayers”. We have all experienced “unanswered prayers”, and at times this has created a challenge to our belief in God’s goodness. The problem though is not in the “unanswered prayer” but in our ability to understand who God really is. We must be careful not to confuse the Lord’s goodness with our expectations or current circumstances. When we don’t understand what He’s doing, we can still trust in who He is!
INTENTIONAL men of God know that our Heavenly Father has the big picture in mind. His eye sight is superior to ours. We see this played out in Exodus 5 as Moses, acting in obedience to the Lord, demands that the children of Israel be set free. In response to this demand, Pharaoh adds to their burden. God’s promise to free the Israelites seemed sure, but the outcome was vastly different in that moment.
God’s people couldn’t foresee all that He had in mind at that time, and neither can we today. They needed to look beyond the immediate circumstances and trust God to work out the big picture for their ultimate good. So do we! If we’ll trust Him even when we don’t understand what He’s doing, He’ll strengthen our faith.
We must trust God to keep His promises. Proverbs 3:5 & 6 tells us not to rely on our own circumstances, but to trust the Lord with all our hearts. This is exactly what Moses needed to do. He had only the words God spoke to him as a foundation for His trust, but we have the completed written Word of God.
Everything else we possess could vanish, but God’s Word stands forever and will never change. Every promise is guaranteed by Him. They may not be fulfilled as you expect or when you want, but they won’t fail.
Next week we will remind ourselves who God truly is. We will explore majesty, dominion and power as He “battles” the god of Egypt.
