Dave’s Monday Blast – May 12, 2025

I read an article recently: “God the Giver of Courage”. It reminded me of the Wizard of Oz – The Cowardly Lion. He needed courage for his journey but did not know how to acquire it. INTENTIONAL men of God also need to have courage for their journey through this life. Unlike the Cowardly Lion though, we know who is behind the curtain (James 1:17; 1 Corinthians 15:41).

Psalm 27:14 says: “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord.” Note that there really is no self help for courage, it comes as a gift from the giver of good gifts, but also note we are told twice in the same verse to WAIT for the Lord! In His time, in His way, and according to His perfect will, we shall receive all that we need to be strong and courageous.

The author of the article comments: “Your portion as a child of the Most High God is a life filled with bravery and courage. The Lord desires to take what brings you fear and force it out with an infilling of courage rooted in the truth of his word for you. Open your heart and mind today to receive healing and transformation in the areas of fear, insecurity, and doubt. Allow God to come in and do a mighty work that frees you to live with joy, security, and courage.”

Take a few moments right now and meditate upon this word from Isaiah 43:2 – 3: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. ”  And this from 1 James 4:18: “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” As the song writer states: “The overwhelming, never ending… love of God” has the power to cast out every source of insecurity and fear that plagues you.

The Spirit of God teaches us in the word that Satan’s lies create the wrong perspectives and have led us away from confident faith in Him. As sons and daughters of the King, we can trust in Him and have the courage to press on even when we feel weak, afraid or insecure. Remember the promises of Romans 8:15: “For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, Abba Father!”

Be encouraged this day by the words of King David in Psalm 34:4: “I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” Claim this promise and know that He will give you the courage you need to confront the “Lions and Tigers and Bears” along the path.
