Dave’s Monday Blast – March 9, 2015
Stop for a moment and consider the purpose of your life. You are a Man of Intention. You understand that your purpose is not to pursue your own interests. You know that you are to love and provide for your families, You know that you must consider “others as more important than yourselves” (Philippians 2:3). In Mark 10:45 we discover what Jesus said about human purpose, “even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” INTENTIONAL MEN strive to be obedient to this simple truth. But above all, they know that their lives must be spent in service to the King.
In truth, this looks so very different for each of us. I don’t know about you, but at times I feel a bit overwhelmed or discouraged by my lack of sincere service; especially as I consider the influence of the Billy Grahams of the world. I know that God is purposeful about all that He has us doing, but our role, or how we “play” it can appear insignificant.
While comparison may discourage us, Christians use other excuses for not trying, such as a lack of experience or not working in an environment that “seems important to the Kingdom”. I was discussing this idea with my beautiful bride yesterday. She had a birthday last week and her co-workers gave her this “card” that was descriptive of their assessment of her character. It occurred to me what an amazing “ministry” she has in a secular work environment. It is likely that every single person she works with is outside of the family of God, but in the midst of it, she is known as a servant and a sincere child of God. From my perspective, she has a vital ministry and God is using her in fantastic ways to make Himself known. Conversely, she feels as if her “work” is not important in the least.
God’s call for each person is unique. Our individual sphere of influence is unique. Just encourage yourself each day with this reality…He will provide the words, abilities, and circumstance so that you can achieve what He wants done. Remember, our Father is the One who makes the difference. We are merely tools, and we are blessed to be used by Him. So don’t compare…just serve. This is the best demonstration of the love of God we can ever provide.
