Dave’s Monday Blast – July 3, 2023

Happy 4th of July!

Enjoy your time with family and friends. I hope you get to see some spectacular fireworks. We will continue to pray for our nation, seeking His forgiveness and blessings. God is in control.

I want to continue our discussion from the last two weeks on Listening to God with a list of questions and answering Scriptures that speak to this question: How do I know if what I am hearing is from God? Pause for a moment and read this fascinating account from Judges 6:36 – 7:22 as Gideon seeks to answer this question.

The following is from Dr. John Jackson, President of William Jessup University:

1. Does it agree with the BIBLE? (Luke 21:33; Psalm 19:7 – 11)
2. Does it make me more like CHRIST? (Philippians 2:5)
3. Does my church family CONFIRM it? (Proverbs 15:22; Ephesians 3:10)
4. Is it consistent with GOD’S DESIGN for me? (Ephesians 2:10)
5. Is it in my sphere of RESPONSIBILITY? (Romans 14:12; Ephesians 4)
6. Does it bring the CONVICTION AND CORRECTION of GOD or the CONDEMNATION AND DESPAIR of SATAN? (1 John 1:9; Revelation 12:10).
7. Does GOD’S PEACE come with it? (1 Corinthians 14:33)
8. Is it consistent with GOD’S CHARACTER? (James 1:17)
9. Would it PLEASE God? “Love God and do as you please” (Augustine)

If we are serious in our quest to know if what we are hearing is from our Heavenly Father and not a deceptive voice intentionally trying to deceive us, we must take the time to confirm it by answering the above questions with YES! Note: we affirm Scripture with more Scripture! 

Next week I want to conclude this conversation by chatting about the third “thing” we must be prepared to do if indeed God does clearly speak to us in the days in which we live: We must be prepared at times to wait for clarity.
