Dave’s Monday Blast – July 29, 2019

A fellow Alumni from Biola University, Jeremy Treat, recently published a book entitled Seek First. Jeremy embarked upon this project to ask and answer this simple question:
Q. What was the one thing that Jesus could not stop talking about?
A. The Kingdom of God! Our Savior spent more time on this topic than almost all others combined!

Consider the following:
When Jesus first began his ministry, the first words out of his mouth were, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15). Christ proclaimed the kingdom of God throughout his teaching and demonstrated it within the context of his miracles and other physical manifestations. Jesus was crucified as the King of the Jews (Matthew 27:37), he was raised from the dead as the King of the World (Ephesians 1:20 – 23), and then he gathered his disciples at the end of His earthly ministry to teach them for 40 days about the Kingdom of God (Acts 1:3).

Jesus gave his followers many commands, but there was only one thing he said to “seek first”, “Seek first the Kingdom of God…” (Matthew 6:33). This is the one thing that changes everything. According to Jesus, what matters most in life is the Kingdom of God.

What does it mean to seek first His Kingdom? Essentially, if we are obedient to that command it means we are NOT putting ourselves first. It is a question about who is at the center of the universe.

Next week I want to begin to explore some principles specific to HOW we accomplish this most important of all admonitions; of course you know that it will require very INTENTIONAL action on your part!
