Dave’s Monday Blast – January 5th, 2026
“The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in His way.” (Psalms 37:23). INTENTIONAL men of God delight in the Lord and strive to live according to His Word. Their lives affirm the wisdom of this passage.
Remember taking road trips as a child (in the days before GPS etc; where your parents and those paper folding maps were your guide). I suppose your family was like mine and everyone in the car was on the lookout for those physical signs along the roadways. “Keep an eye out for Exit 12,” or “Look for a gas station on the left,” these were the kind of landmarks that told us we were headed in the right direction.
Life with the Lord often feels this way. We must learn to read the signs He uses to point us in the direction we’re meant to go. We have all experienced believing that we were on the right track only to discover we were completely lost on a road unintended.
Those moments are discouraging, confusing, and often a great waste of time and resources. At times we become angry, hopeless and indeed just lost. “I really thought this is what the Lord wanted; how He was directing and leading.”
Well…it often turns out that He indeed was directing and leading, but in an unexpected or unanticipated way. Doors close! We should be grateful! Another opportunity presents itself and suddenly His will and way is revealed.
In hindsight, we can see God’s hand in each step of the process, but along the way, all we had were little nudges to take the next step, to see what would unfold, to even be redirected along the way. At the end of the day, it’s not so much about the destination, but about the journey of trust and learning to walk with God each step of the way.
Perhaps take some time today to consider the following:
In your life today, where are you trusting the Lord to direct your steps into the unknown? What are some signs the Lord used to show you your next steps? Have you ever had to humbly thank the Lord for “Unanswered Prayers?” (No…I am not a Garth Brooks fan but I have found myself doing that very thing).
