Well….Happy New Year to you and yours!

I had a good friend ask me last week if I had a personal mission statement. He felt compelled to bring clarity to his own, and was curious if I had ever developed such a statement, and how it played out in my daily life.  I do believe every follower of Christ would benefit from clearly defining their role in service to the Kingdom of God. If you are interested in this pursuit, I suggest a great place to begin might just be found in (Luke 4:17 – 19). I encourage you to spend some time studying this passage and meditating upon the mission of a very INTENTIONAL man of God.

In answer to the question my friend posed…I do indeed have a personal mission statement. I think it is important to note that I refer to it as my personal Kingdom mission statement. Although I do not generally see value in traditional New Year’s Resolutions, I must say that his question did remind me to be attentive each day of 2022 to my personal Kingdom mission. My mission is simple and framed with this question: “Who am I influencing today?” I must combine the question with this powerful admonition from the Apostle Paul found in 1 Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.” This verse provides me with the motivation I need to influence others rightly.

INTENTIONAL men of God clearly understand that all of us are influencers, and that we all have a unique sphere of influence. If I begin my day with 1 Corinthians 15:58, my influence will likely be God honoring and Kingdom building. If I do not begin each day with 1 Corinthians 15:58 my influence will likely lead those within my sphere toward another kingdom. Of course we all must keep in mind that as we are influencing others…others can also influence us. So we must constantly consider not just who and how am I influencing others, but who is influencing me and what is their motivation?
