Dave’s Monday Blast – January 15, 2024
I want to wrap up a conversation we began two weeks ago concerning launching a new year with a firm commitment to maturation in Christ. We have been walking through the book of James in our Tuesday morning Men’s study, and James informs his audience that the purpose of the trials we face in our lives are to strengthen our faith. We know when we have become Mature in Christ when the trials we endure no longer cause anxiety and stress. Those types of responses simply say that we have our doubts concerning who He is and what He is doing in our lives (James 1:4).
I mentioned three commitments that are necessary for a child of God to grow in Faith:
1. Two weeks ago: A commitment to spending time with God.
2. One week ago: A commitment to spending our resources on the Kingdom of God.
3. This week: A commitment to spending time nurturing/cultivating our relationships. (Hebrews 10:25; Acts 5:42). Being obedient to these two Biblical commands will assist us in keeping this commitment. When we gather as the church, these four specific things help to grow our relationships. The Lord designed us to exist within a community of Christ Followers.
a. Prayer – Matthew 18:20
b. Accountability – Proverbs 27:17
c. Support – Ecclesiastes 4:9 – 10
d. Encouragement – 1 Thessalonians 5:11
“The Christian who is not committed to a group of believers for praying, sharing and serving so that he is known, as he knows others, is not an obedient Christian. He is not in the will of God. However vocal he may be in his theology, he is not obeying the Lord.” Dr. Ray Ortlund
