Corrie ten Boom once said, “In darkness, God’s light shines most clear.”
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stated, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
Jesus Christ said, “The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5).
INTENTIONAL men of God know that Jesus was referring to Himself in John 1:5. Jesus is the Light that chases away the darkness. He is the Truth, and that is the truth! Because of who He is, and what He accomplished for humankind on the cross, eternity can only be found in Him (Acts 4:12).
God has called us to be His Ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20), as such we are to shine His light in the darkness. But as the days continue to grow darker and more difficult, it can be tempting to despair. It can be tempting to wonder what God is up to, and what His plan is specific to this country, and this world. These are indeed “unprecedented times.” However, on the plus side, we have an “unprecedented opportunity” to shine God’s light even brighter. We are part of His plan to drive away even more darkness. Even when you feel as if your light is dim because of discouragement or fatigue, keep shining the light upon the Truth of Jesus because it is THE ONLY LIGHT we have been given.
We will face increasing opposition from those who love the darkness because it hides their evil deeds (John 3:19), but remember He has already overcome the world. We are just passing through as citizens of Heaven (Philippians 3:20 & 21). Whenever you need a reminder of who is in control of this world reread (Matthew 14:22 – 33).
This story of Jesus walking on water and calling for Peter to come to Him both intimidates and inspires me. We relate to his deep hunger to please the master. He desperately wanted to be obedient. His faith gave him just enough courage to step out. The image of him sinking in fear as he shifted his focus away from Jesus reminds me of my own seasons of doubt. But, as you finish this story, you know that in spite of the foolishness of stepping out of the boat, he did! Why? Because that is where God was!
Are you willing to to step headlong into the waters and draw near to Him?
Are you willing to risk everything just so you can get face to face with Him?
