Dave’s Monday Blast – August 29, 2022

INTENTIONAL men of God read His Word seeking to know what He has revealed, and how He would have us apply that revelation to the circumstances of our lives. For many, the difficult part of this process is learning to listen to God speak through the Word. There is an account in Exodus from the life of Moses where God used a variety of methods to teach Moses some value lessons about listening to His voice (Exodus 3:1 – 14).

The first lesson from this passage that we unpacked last week simply says: We must pay attention to the Word!  In vs. 3 & 4 we listen in on a conversation between the Lord and Moses, but God chooses an unusual  way to communicate; a burning bush!

Lesson two comes from vs. 10 & 11: We must obey the Word we receive!  After getting his attention with the burning bush, God gave Moses a message. “Now come, and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt” (Exodus 3:10). Moses initially objected, saying, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh?” (v. 11). All he could see were obstacles to obeying the Lord.

Moses’ objection didn’t change God’s mind or His plans, and neither will ours. Although we may think of all sorts of reasons why we can’t do what He’s said, His commands are indisputable. The Lord NEVER calls us to do anything for which He does not have a reason, purpose, or goal.

To this point, Pastor Charles Stanley inquires: “Does the thought of obeying the Lord sometimes fill you with fear?” Feelings of inadequacy and trepidation are not excuses for disobedience. We’ve been given the Holy Spirit to empower us. When you can’t see what’s ahead, ask the Lord for strength, and then obey in faith.”

Next week we will conclude this account with a third lesson: We must trust God’s Word!
