Dave’s Monday Blast – August 12, 2024

Last week we began to unpack a bullet point Biblical Worldview apologetic specific to the forthcoming election season. It is critical that we are always ready to articulate a reason for the Hope that is in us (1 Peter 3:15). A Biblical apologetic that is clearly in partnership with our Worldview is inclusive of clearly demonstrating that our Hope is not found in anyone or anything; our Hope is found in Jesus Christ.

I have been asked many times over the years: “Who will you be voting for? Why would you or why could you possibly vote for…?” I think this quote (author unknown) provides a really great talking point to begin to answer those two questions: “A vote is not a valentine, you aren’t confessing your love for the candidate. It’s a chess move for the world you want to live in”. A Biblical Chess move!

Let’s pick up from last week:

10. We have no ability to transform the world into its ideal state, no human-being can do so.
11. Nor can we make nations Christian, nor are we called to by the Scriptures. We are called to be obedient to the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:19.
12. The mission of the church is distinct from the mission of the state.
13. As God works, sinners become Christians, that’s what the Great Commission is all about.
14. Only the church has the keys of the Kingdom; the magistrate in the New Covenant era does not (Matthew 16 & 18).
15. Per the chastened vision of Matthew 22, 1 Timothy 2, 1 Peter 2, and related New Testament texts, we want a government that honors good and punishes evil.
16. As we live as “salt and light” per Matthew 5, we remember that only Jesus can and will make the world right.
17. Until that day, we are free to support the best candidates before us, and we do so without shame or guilt or despair. We must acknowledge that every candidate is a flawed human being so don’t expect them to always look like Jesus.
18. Our political theology is thus inescapably eschatological (end of our days), for we are living for the last days now, confident that our sovereign God will make all things new again (Isaiah 43:18 & 19).

But until that day when He will restore order and bring justice back to this world we are privileged to participate in a process that allows us to carefully and INTENTIONALLY vote for those individuals who will honor the Lord with their service.

We know that the rapidly approaching national elections are VERY important. Just do your homework, and cast your votes according to this Biblical Apologetic. It is plausible that those solid, prayed over selections do not “win” their elections; don’t despair! Be assured that the Lord God is the only one who is truly in charge; not the geo-political globalists, or the deep state manipulators, or the corrupt, seemingly untouchable professional politicians, nor the blasphemers of the Holy God; He has already made all those selections according to His will and Ways (Daniel 2:20 – 22).

I would love for you to end this time by meditating upon the incredible Doxology found in Jude 24 & 25, as it affirms who our God truly is!
