Dave’s Monday Blast – April 27, 2015
I have been spending some time debriefing the Men’s Retreat. The teaching was incredible. The question of the weekend was simply this, “What are you going to do with the rest of your life?” Retired Navy Captain Tom Joyce shared with us the value of leaving a legacy of Christian discipleship. We examined together two examples from Scripture of men who not only “kept the faith”, but left a legacy of discipleship. They INTENTIONALLY mentored those who would come after them. Let us first consider Joshua, the chosen replacement for Moses. In four quick passages we discover that Joshua was a very INTENTIONAL man. He purposed to serve the Lord ALL his life, and as a result God richly blessed him and his people.
In Joshua 1:7 and FF we learn that God’s blessings come to those who:
1. Stay the course
2. Know the Word
3. Live it out
4. Remember to whom they report
In Joshua 5:1-15 we discover that wherever God “has us” we are to consider it to be “Holy Ground”. Holy because He intentionally placed us there for His purposes and for our development. It begs the question, “Where does God have you right now? Wherever that may be…it is “Holy Ground”. Treat it as such.
In Joshua 7:17-21 we learn that we must love COMPASSIONATELY, but never compromise the Truth.
Lastly, in Joshua 24:14 & 15 we observe Joshua reciting all that GOD had accomplished…not what he had accomplished. In verse 31 we see the impact of just one man who served the Lord his entire life; he mentored an entire generation of leaders, who in turn, faithfully served the Lord all of their lives.
