Dave’s Monday Blast – April 25, 2022

Do you remember that old song, Leaning on the Everlasting Arms? My favorite line from the song is “Safe and Secure from All Alarms”. It reminds me of Psalm 46. Take a moment right now and look up a fantastic song based upon Psalm 46 by Shane and Shane. The official title is Psalm 46 – Lord of Hosts. You will find it on You Tube. (I suggest the lyrics version).

The world in which we live is challenging to our faith. I admit to being anxious at times and consumed with the What Ifs and What Can I Do’s. I suggest this song simply because as a person, husband, father, grandfather, and friend I discover that everyone wrestles with their circumstances. Ultimately, I only find peace in the Word and this song is taken directly from the Word.

Here are the first three verses: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”

Refuge – means a powerful shelter, a secure place to hide. In this way, God defends and shields us.
Strength – means power, capacity, capability. When Jimmy Johnson coached the Dallas Cowboys, he famously remarked that to win a football game you must understand the three parts of the game: offense, defense, and special teams. To win, you must win at least two of the three phases. According to the psalmists, God plays both defense (providing refuge) and offense (in the form of strength as we walk with Him).

Every INTENTIONAL man of God wants this protection and power from God every day. We want our experience to be “therefore, we (I) will not fear… (v.2)

That’s good isn’t it!
