Dave’s Monday Blast – December 12, 2016
Can Christmas change your life? Simple question right? Personal recognition or acknowledgement of the “holiday” aside, when the fullness of time had appeared (Galatians 4:4) and God sent His son to earth, born as a babe, to a virgin in that humble stable…the world was forever changed. Why? How?
What was/is the purpose of Christmas? Let me share three quick thoughts:
- The purpose of Christmas is CELEBRATION!“There were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people.'” (Luke 2:8-10)
Why do we celebrate?
Because God Loves Us! (John 3:16)
Because God is With Us! (Hebrews 13:5)
Because God is For Us! (John 3:17)
- The Purpose of Christmas is SALVATION!“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born for you; He is Christ the Lord!” (Luke 2:11)
What are we saved from?
My Past is Forgiven! (Matthew 1:21)
My Future is Secure! (Romans 6:23)
- The Purpose of Christmas is TRANSFORMATION! “This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:12)
What does this Transformation mean?
I am a New Creation! (2 Corinthians 5:17)
On that Christmas morning so long ago, God very INTENTIONALLY chose to release that aspect of His nature that defines Him as our Creator. In doing so, He left behind the light of Heaven, to enter into the darkness of this sin cursed world as a man. This self-less act, positioned all men to be freed from the bondage of sin and its natural consequence…death (Philippians 2:6; Romans 6:23). From that moment, all humankind was shown the path out of the dark. God designed us to live in the light. Sin snuffed out “The Candle”, Jesus was the tool God chose to reignite the light and chase away the dark.
Christmas changed everything!
