Dave’s Monday Blast — February 9, 2015
Do you remember the encounter Jesus had with Pilate in John 18:37 & 38? Pilate wanted to know why the Jews were so intent on having him killed. Jesus tells him that they do not recognize Him as their King in spite of the miraculous displays of His power and glory. He went on to inform Pilate that one must be “of the truth” to discern truth from error. Pilate’s response was to ask a cynical, humanistic, pluralistic, and certainly rhetorical question . . . “Truth…what is truth”?
Men of Intention know clearly that Jesus is the Truth. The Apostle John reminded us that He is the way, truth and life. He is the only “way” to be reconciled back to God; He is the only avenue that exists for us to have eternal “life” with our loving heavenly Father, and that is the “truth”. But for us to be consistently effective as Men of God we must be INTENTIONALLY well grounded in truth. Pilate, like the most Jews of Jesus time, could not see the truth in spite of all His demonstrations of it, simply because they were poorly grounded.
Psalms 25:4-10 admonishes us to let the truths of scripture fill our minds, guard our emotions, and influence our conduct. As we immerse ourselves in His Word andGROUND ourselves in His truth we will experience God’s spiritual blessings in abundance. By reading and meditating upon His Word, you will learn to understand His ways. This isn’t something we can “figure out” on our own, because His ways are unlike ours…they are higher, bigger and eternal.
Charles Stanley would say, “A life grounded in truth is powerful. Those who live by the Word develop spiritual discernment, which guides their choices and guards against deception. Because they demonstrate wisdom and godliness, the Lord enables them to impact others greatly. Since He knows they can be trusted, He gives them greater responsibilities and opportunities for service in His Kingdom”. What more could a Man of Intention desire?
So…with all of this available to us, wouldn’t it be wise to invest our time and energy in building the truth of God’s Word into our lives? The other activities which clamor for our attention seem so important or pleasurable, but none of them offer us the spiritual riches of a life grounded in truth. GOOD STUFF!
