Dave’s Monday Blast – January 8, 2024
Last week I shared the first of three resolutions I am committing to for 2024. I mentioned last week that I find myself re-resolving these same three things because I still wrestle with consistently applying these practices to my daily walk.
From last week:
1. Time spent with Him (Joshua 1:8 & 9) If you don’t live for the Lord, you WILL live for something else.
2. Resources (1 Corinthians 16:2; 2 Corinthians 8:7) Being generous with the blessings (Time; Talent; Treasures) that God provides reflects the character of Christ. I note that only fundamentally joyful people live to give, not get.
What will giving back to God what He has given to us provide?
a. Makes me more like Him (James 1:5)
b. Draws me closer to Him (Matthew 6:21)
c. Breaks the grip of materialism (Matthew 6:24)
d. Demonstrates that God has first place in my life (Deuteronomy 14:23)
e. Strengthens my faith (2 Corinthians 9:13)
f. Is an investment for eternity (1 Timothy 6:18)
g. Blesses me in return (Proverbs 22:9)
h. Helps me be truly joyful (Acts 20:35)
i. Will help me experience God’s blessings (Malachi 3:10)
Interestingly…this is the only place in Scripture where we are TAUGHT TO TEST God! Billy Graham often reminded us that “A checkbook is a theological document. It tells who and what you worship.”
