Dave’s Monday Blast – October 27, 2014
I glossed over this article from In Touch Ministries one day last week. I initially set it aside, but something kept drawing me back to the contrasting question that the author posed; I am living in Obedience or am more prone to following my own Preferences?
The Scriptural context of the article was taken from Matthew 26:36-42. Christ had asked his disciples to come pray with him as He was preparing for His trial and crucifixion. At that exact moment in history the redemptive plan of God rested upon the shoulders of His son. Jesus had to choose between obedience to the plan of God or following His preference. I am certain Jesus would have preferred to be spared the painful death placed before Him. He knew what was in store, but He also knew what was at stake. In the end, He chose the path of obedience, for which we are all eternally grateful.
The Lord certainly understands our need to question, cry out, and petition Him for the strength to do what He asks of us. Hebrews 4:15 tells us that we have a high priest who can sympathize with us. Jesus was not excited or happy about “The Cross”. He grieved over the separation from His Father…and as a human being…I am certain He was fearful of the physical pain about to be inflicted. Nevertheless, as the original MAN OF INTENTION, He was committed to following God’s will. No one took Christ’s life from Him; He laid it down (John 10:18).
Our lives are about fulfilling God’s purpose. Many people miss His awesome plan for them because they choose to follow their preferences. Obedience is sometimes hard, but the struggle and sacrifice are worth it. There is joy and peace for the believer who pleases the Lord and lives by His principles.
