Dave’s Monday Blast – June 20, 2022

Last weekend we were seated on a patio in a restaurant in South Lake Tahoe. A few tables away was a group of guys that had just returned from an early morning fishing excursion. We had just ordered our meal when one of them came over and asked us if we wanted some lake trout that they had caught that morning. Evidently the chef was a friend of theirs and he agreed to prepare their trout in three different ways. What a treat! We were so delighted that we quickly accepted their invitation.

Do you remember the fish story found in (Matthew 4:18 – 20)? That simple encounter made me remember the story: “Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And He said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishermen. Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.”

I know that you agree that great things happen when we follow Jesus!

1. Jesus gives every one of us a purpose for living. He says “Follow Me = Obey Me and I will make you “Fishers of Men”.

2. People are more important than things. Love people and use things not Love things and use people. This is why Jesus said “Follow me, leave the nets” and turn your attention to people.

3. Following Jesus brings joy to our lives and makes us good fishermen. (Luke 10:17).

What does it mean to fish for people? (John 4:4 – 26) We have used the following acronym for years at AGCC to answer this question:

F = Friendly – Don’t keep your faith in Jesus to yourself. The fish don’t come to you. You have to go to where the fish are, and if you are going to catch them, you must apply some attractive bait.
I = Initiate – You must start the conversation. Be bold, be brave, keeping in mind that what you are sharing will save a life.
S = Listen to their STORY – Take the time to develop a friendship so that people know that you care for them.
H = Hope is ONLY found in Jesus. Only He can save us from our sins.

Men of INTENTION know that they must always listen to Jesus and obey whatever He says. They also know that opportunities to Fish are presented every single day.
