Dave’s Monday Blast – December 6, 2021

The first recorded words of our God in the Scriptures were “Let there be light!” (Genesis 1:3). The resulting action of those words are found in the very next verse (v.4), “God saw that the light was good” as it dispelled the darkness (v. 2). God created light because God loves light. Unfortunately, Jesus affirmed that “men love darkness more than light…” (John 3:19)We saw the result of this love affair with darkness in the Garden of Eden as darkness crept back into the world. Disobedience destroyed the intimate relationship between God and humankind and the light was dimmed. We became estranged from God; all seemed lost!

But our God “so loved the world…” (John 3:16) that He once again created light, but this time in an unexpected manner. He used a child born in a stable in Bethlehem of Israel (Matthew 2:1 – 6). In the Gospel of John (8:12; 14:6) Jesus is defined as the Light of the World. As a result of this re-appearance of light, men no longer need to walk in darkness; this is the Message of Christmas.  This message places His followers on a Christmas Mission to shine this light everywhere we go.

Men of INTENTION are compelled to Celebrate both the Message and the Mission.

Why do we Celebrate? Consider the following Scriptures!

(John 3:16)           God         LOVES US.
(John 3:17)           God is     FOR US.
(Matthew 1:21)     God has SAVED US.
(Acts 2:38)           God has FORGIVEN OUR PAST.
(Romans 6:23)     God has SECURED OUR FUTURE.

Think about it my friends…in that Bethlehem stable the light re-appeared and the path out of darkness was suddenly visible. The Magi followed the light to the Light. When we follow this same light we no longer need to stumble in darkness. The same discovery made by the Magi many Christmas’ ago becomes our discovery. We can choose the path that God has designed for us; a path filled with light and life, or we can continue to stumble in the dark. This is the message of Christmas; light returned to a dark world enslaved by sin, but men no longer need to walk in the darkness.
