A Man and His Traps
This Saturday is our “A Man and His Traps” event. It dawned on me that I had not mentioned to you an important detail for the day…make certain you bring your eye and ear protection. Of course this advice is appropriate s for all men who are INTENTIONAL about living their lives in such a way that glorifies our God.
We are typically intentional about protecting such valuable assets as our eyes and ears because we know that we only get one set of each for life. If they are damaged through neglect or carelessness the whole body suffers. Of course this illustration is poignantly true as we consider the impact the eye and ear gates have upon our very souls. We are reminded in Nehemiah 1:6 that God will turn an attentive ear and open His eyes to His children who are clean before Him, but the heavens are shut to those who intentionally fill their eyes and ears with rubbish.
I have a simple sign posted next to my desk-top in the office and that same sign next to my home computer that simply says, “I will set no worthless thing before my eyes.” Psalm 101:3. Worthless means that it does not cause me to “draw near” to God. In Revelation chapters 2 and 3 we read seven times about the value of using our ears well, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says.” It reminds me that all sin begins as a thought that is encouraged by a simple glance or word.
So…Men of Intention…remember to protect those eyes and ears at all costs. Hope to see you on Saturday.
