Dave’s Monday Blast – October 14, 2019

Scripture is filled with examples of our God at work. From Genesis to Revelation we see Him  “doing.” His work is always good and profitable and is done in accordance with His will and His ways. Although He does not need our help to accomplish His work, interestingly enough, He has chosen humankind as His work partner.

For example: Noah built the ark, and God closed the door (Genesis 7:16). Moses held his staff over the Red Sea, and God parted the water (Exodus 14:21). Joshua led the people to step into the flooded Jordan River, and God stopped the water (Joshua 3:14 – 17). Peter preached at Pentecost, and the Spirit led three thousand souls to Christ (Acts 2:41).

As we work, God works. As we give our Father our best, we position ourselves to experience His best. But what really is our work? God has tasked us with the job of disciple – making (Matthew 28:18 – 20). Individually and collectively we must work to be a positive influence within our culture so the Good News can be heard.

Pastor Jim Denison comments: “Helping hurting people has been at the heart of the Christian mission from its beginning until today (Acts 2:45). Our most powerful witness to a culture that is skeptical of Christians is our compassion for those in need. Such compassion is not only our gift in God’s name, it is also God’s gift to us.” Compassion defines our God, it is who He is. Since we are created in His image we must also be defined by our compassion.

Ralph Waldo Emerson: “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” Translation from a Biblical Christian Worldview: God has created us to be His hands and feet. We are His masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to accomplish His good works …(Ephesians 2:10). When we “do” what God has created and gifted us to do we discover our value and purpose.

St. Catherine of Siena commented: “Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.” Translation: Be obedient to the Kingdom Mandate; make disciples of all.
