Dave’s Monday Blast – November 11, 2024
Well…as I sit down to write this blog the day after the 2024 election I confess to having a little faith restored in our Constitutional Republic. The Denison Forum comments: “Elective democracy both expresses and forges our national character. It is the natural outgrowth of our founding creed that ‘all men are created equal…’ offering us a way to govern ourselves through a system that constrains autonomous authority while rewarding consensual leadership and morality.”
In 1903, then President Theodore Roosevelt issued a Thanksgiving Day Proclamation in which he stated: “In no other and at no other time has the experiment of government, of the people, by the people, for the people, been tried on so vast a scale as here in our own country.” His words were never so true 121 years later. Denison continues: “America has now conducted its sixtieth presidential election, beginning with George Washington’s unanimous victory in 1789. However, it seems that the bonds of trust essential to our democratic experiment are weaker than at any time in my lifetime.”.
What is going to happen over the next couple of months? Will the transfer of power be without violence? Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute comments: “This election season has been challenging and critically important. The very values we share continue to be under attack. But, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Make no mistake…while the position in which we find ourselves brings great relief and hope, there are still many battles to fight! Tyranny, hostility, and persecution against people of faith will continue to persist.”
Men of INTENTION know that we must continue to pray for our country and all those in elected positions at every level. We must stay actively involved in our communities; churches, businesses, school boards, etc;. We must continue to be about the Matthew 28 mandate. We must give generously to faith-based, and mission focused organizations. We must be good stewards of our time, talents and treasures as we run this race with endurance (Hebrews 12:1).
The battle belongs to the Lord. He places in authority whom He wills, to accomplish His plans (Daniel 2:21). Even if the election results were otherwise, rest assured that Jesus is still Lord and His Kingdom continues to advance. Brad challenges us: “As we strive to be salt and light, let’s look to a better nation and kingdom ahead.”
I wanted to encourage you to meditate upon these few verses. They remind us of what the Lord expects and indeed requires of us as individuals and as a collective … so we never take His blessings for granted … His part … Our part:
- (Proverbs 14:34) “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”
- (Joshua 24:15) “And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
- (Joshua 1:8 & 9) “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
- (2 Chronicles 7:14 ) …”and my people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
